Two days ago, this little girl was brought to Amecet by the Police. There a quite a number of small lodges in Soroti, where you can sleep when you miss your bus or so. They are very simple. And in one of those lodges, the cleaning lady went to clean the rooms which were occupied during the night. In one of the small rooms, she found this little girl... We think she is 1,5 years old abandoned by her mother. The Police is involved, and they found pictures of the mother on the security camera of a neighbouring shop. We call her Esther, for now. She is doing well, eat and drinks and even sleeps without many problems. We just heard today that the police arrested the mother. We might be able to find the relatives now.
Yesterday, again the Police... They called us that there was a baby from around 1 week old, found.. Someone found the baby in her kitchen. In the village, a home contains several huts and one of them will be used as a kitchen, often that hut is open. So Andrew and Pius went to the police post to get the story and the baby, to bring to Amecet. We called him A.K.A. Patrick, the A.K.A. stands for As Known As, it means there is no real name, but we give the child a name, so we don't call him baby or boy.. Patrick is doing good, we took him to the doctor and there is no problem, he drinks well. In the meantime the Social Workers will start their tracing for the relatives...
Today we got a phone call from a family who lost their daughter after the caesarean operation. If we could please help with the baby. The baby was born early this morning. The grandfather came to bring the baby . During the intake we do with the relatives, I heard that the mother was only 22 years old, this was her first baby. They don't know who the father is, they never met him and the daughter didn't say.
The baby had not had any milk to drink. so we made a bottle with formula and tried to feed him. He drank 15 ml. we will feed him every 2 hours, if he is not able to drink, we will have to give him a NG tube for a couple of days. For now we observe him.. The grandfather gave him the name Kokas, after himself!!
While I was writing this blog, I was called out. The police brought a girl of 8 years old to us. The quick story I got is that some people saw her walking along the road . She was on her way home in the village. She had been living in Soroti city at her aunties home, but she was mis treated and decided to go home. Her home must be at least a day walk... So the people who found her took her to the Police, and they brought her to us.
She is brought to Amecet for her safety, tomorrow Simon will sort things out with the police and her and we will get her home on a safe way. Her name is Vivian.
Life is never boring.... We have 22 children in our home right now and there is a lot of work. Pls. pray for the staff, we still have those 3 preterm babies to feed every 2 hours and now we have Patrick also to feed every 2 hours. The rest of the baby's are fed every 3 hours.
Pray for the mothers who abandoned their children, maybe they were desperate, maybe it was just too much for them and noone to turn to for help.
