July was a month with assessments and report writing.. On this picture you can see our Management committee. Every registered children's Home in Uganda has a Management committee. In our committee is the Probation Officer from Soroti District and the Probation Officer from Soroti City, The Mayor from Soroti City West, The health inspector and the Health Officer and then our Amecet leaders team. We had our 6 monthly meeting. It was also time for our 6 monthly report to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, this time, together with a report of Probation Office and a report of the health inspector.  We got a lot of inspectors checking Amecet. Everything went well and every inspection was good. So a good report went to Kampala.

It is long since my last blog, a lot has happened since. Children came and children went back home. We have been busy, at the moment we have 20 children in Amecet, 12 baby's and 8 toddlers.

Children who were abandoned, babies whose mother died just moments after the delivery. The second and the fourth from these pictures, are both new-born babies. They both were born at home, both of them were the tenth baby in the family and both lost their mother, moments after they were born... There are now 20 children without their mother.....

The mother of the baby on the first picture, has a mental problem and left the child behind after she had given birth and the child on the last picture was left behind in the hospital. Nobody knows anything about him....

Our social workers try to be fast in working on their cases, the longer you wait, the less chance there is, that somebody has seen anything or remembers...

Posters are placed around the places where many people come  and the social workers are going into the villages to follow leads.

At the moment we have 5 children who need special tracing for relatives. That is a lot of work. When we have no success in the tracing, we will put adverts in the newspaper, messages on the radio etc.

We are working together with Police and Probation Office, who will give us green light when all the tracing is without result. And we are looking for foster families, who want to adopt.

In February we received 2 little girls of 16 months old and their weight was 4.4 kg. Their were part of  triplets. After tests etc. they came out as positive for TB. They were started on anti TB medicins for 6 months. They had severe problems in relating with people, didn't look at you, were just playing with their feet and hands. But now, 6 months later, they have gained, they llike to eat and they play and smile and have real eye contact with people. This is so beautiful to see!!

There is one little girl, we are worried about. That is Juliet. She came also in Februari '25, the same time as the two little girls. Juliet was 15 months old and her weight was 3.8 kg. She was also tested and was found positive for TB and for HIV. This little girl had a lot of challenges. We had also big challenges with her. We had to feed her by NG tube, because she refused to eat, every day a lot of medication for her and she was not a happy girl. Very moody and sad.

She has finished the anti TB medicins, she is on ARV's and we try all kind of ways to feed her, she vomits quite a lot. She has also problems with pooping, so we have to give her regularly enema's. We have taken her for scans and X-rays, but nothing significant is found. She hardly gains and because of that, her immunity is low and she gets often infections or malaria.

But..... for the last 3 weeks she has been gaining.... 100 grams per week!!! she is now 4.6 kg and that is the highest she has ever been. She will be 2 years in November, can not stand on her legs, but we don't give up. She is smiling more and plays more and as you can see on this picture, she is really a beautiful girl when she smiles!!

Pls. join is in prayers for Juliet
