My last Ugandan Visa !!!!!!!

Gepubliceerd op 19 september 2025 om 15:37

After being 28 years in Uganda, more than 15 Visa's (tourist, work permit, residence visa and special pass), I received this morning my last one!! I feel mixed about it, happy that I don't have to go to immigration again and not to have to pay a lot of money every time, but `sad that this part of my life, here in Uganda, is almost over.. The cup of coffee definitely helps a lot!!

There are so many good memories, especially about the years that I could serve building up Amecet Children's Home. It has costs me also many tears, seeing the injustice done to children, the suffering of innocent little children and the dying of those little one's. I have also seen many, many children pick up life and start to shine again. And that is my delight, seeing a child smile again.  Forgotten are all the hard hours where we were fighting for her or his life... I am so grateful for the time I have been in Amecet, in Soroti, in Uganda.

This are Mark and Janneke Gerritsen. They are the couple who is coming from the Netherlands, to take over my place.. It has been a journey for at least the last 1,5 year. It is a story of God's faithfullness towards Amecet and His hand and guidance for the future of Amecet Children's Home.

They are coming to Amecet in October 2025 and we will be together for around 6 weeks. They have been visiting Amecet several times, during the last 18 months.

Mark and Janneke will work together with the Amecet leadership team: Dominique, Andrew, Pius and Simon. Those four people have proved their love for the children and their zeal for their well being. I am so privileged to have worked together with those four people, together we have been through a lot. God placed us together, even we are all very different, but He has made us united for the task He had set before us.

I am confident that Mark and Janneke, together with Dominique, Andrew, Pius, Simon and the rest of our wonderful Amecet staff team, will be able to continue the ministry of Amecet, minister to the children, stand for them in the gab and even will do new things!!

For me, a new life will start, I am going back to the Netherlands and settle there. I am very open for what God still wants to do in and with my life.

Personally, I also went through a lot. I adopted in all those years, 4 beautiful daughters, my desire was to give them a home and a future. And we were a family together!! In the summer of 2019, I lost two of my daughters. Sarah (21) and Catherine (9), on this picture, they are standing third and fourth from left. It was very , very painful, but I know that God had blessed us for the years we were together.  Helen (left), me and Mary (right), we had to go on together.

You understand that a big part of my heart will always be in Uganda....

Helen is at the moment in the Netherlands and Mary is studying for her Bachelors is Nursing.  I am still very involved in Amecet Children's Home, trying to get everything ready for the the arrival of Mark and Janneke.

Amecet Children's Home will continue and is not depending on me. God has been the founder of Amecet and He will continue to bless this beautiful Ministry, because He loves the children and He is also upset about the injustice and suffering of those little one's.

I am so thankful that I could be involved in this Ministry and I will be following them from afar ( and hopefully visit them after some time).

I pray that you will also follow them and pray for them and support them. Our job is not over yet.....

Thank you so much for walking together with me and in the future, with Amecet Children's Home!

Yours in Christ,

Els van Teijlingen
